Selenoid

A solenoid is a long piece of wire which is wound in the shape of a coil. When the electric current passes through the coil it creates a relatively uniform magnetic field inside the coil.

The Solenoid can create a magnetic field from electric current and this magnetic field can be used to generate a linear motion with the help of a metal core

Electromagnetic solenoids find uses all over the world. They are in air conditioning systems.MRI machines, speakers, microphones and power plants.

Toroidal CT

Toroidal inductors and transformers are electronic components, typically consisting of a circular ring-shaped magnetic core of iron powder, ferrite, or other material around which wire is coiled to make an inductor. Toroidal coils are used in a broad range of applications, such as high-frequency coils and transformers. Toroidal inductors can have higher inductance than similarly constructed solenoid coils. This is due largely to the smaller number of turns required when the core provides a closed magnetic path. The magnetic flux in a high permeability toroid is largely confined to the core; the confinement reduces the energy that can be absorbed by nearby objects, so toroidal cores offer some self-shielding. Toroidal Current Transformer – These do not contain a primary winding. Instead, the line that carries the current flowing in the network is threaded through a window or hole in the toroidal transformer. Some current transformers have a “split core” which allows it to be opened, installed, and closed, without disconnecting the circuit to which they are attached. A current transformer is an instrument transformer in which the secondary current is substantially proportional to the primary current and differs in phase from it by an angle which is approximately zero

The principle of operation of a current transformer is the same as that of the power transformer. The current transformer has a primary and a secondary winding. An alternating current flowing in the primary winding induces an alternating current in the secondary winding

The primary winding may be a single turn or a small number of turns, the secondary winding will have many more turns depending on transformation ratio. The rated transformation is the ratio of the rated primary current to the rated secondary current

External CT

A current transformer is an instrument transformer, used along with measuring or protective devices, in which the secondary current is proportional to the primary current (under normal conditions of operation) and differs from it by an angle that is approximately zero

Current transformers supply the protective relays with currents of magnitude proportional to those of power circuit but sufficiently reduced in magnitude

The measuring devices cannot be directly connected to the high magnitude supplies. Hence current transformers are used to supply those devices with currents of magnitude proportional to those of power.

A current transformer also isolates the measuring instruments from high voltage circuits.

The Current Transformer ( C.T. ), is a type of “instrument transformer” that is designed to produce an alternating current in its secondary winding which is proportional to the current being measured in its primary. Current transformers reduce high voltage currents to a much lower value and provide a convenient way of safely monitoring the actual electrical current flowing in an AC transmission line using a standard ammeter. The principal of operation of a basic current transformer is slightly different from that of an ordinary voltage transformer
